Tumbles - a basset in special need...

This is the story of a very special family and a tragic set of circumstances. BHRO is holding a special fundraiser for the May family and Tumbles, in hopes of making this situation a little easier for them. This is their story...

The story begins with the May family's need for a seizure service dog for one of their daughters, who suffers uncontrolled seizures. Sadly, their child had to wait almost three long years before receiving her service dog. Just before the arrival of her designated service dog it was discovered that Olympia, the service dog, suffered from Addisons disease. The Mays were faced with the decision to forgo adding Olympia to their family, and wait an additional two years for another service dog for their daughter, or take Olympia and provide the lifelong, expensive treatment to control her Addisons disease. Knowing their daughter could not wait any longer, the May's made the decision to open their hearts and home to Olympia... and they have never regretted that decision. Olympia is not only a crucial aid to their daughter's well being, but a beloved family member as well. Olympia's medications to control her Addisons disease cost the May family approximately $400 each month.

Just before the May's discovered the news about Olympia, they had decided another 4 legged family member was in order. This time it was a lucky basset, adopted through Basset Hound Rescue of Ontario, that was to join their family. Tumbles, their new basset, could not have been more fortunate when she joined this special family. Shortly after Tumbles arrived it was discovered that, what was thought to be submissive urination, was in fact spay incontinence. The May's did what they could for Tumbles and loved her all the more.

Tragically, Tumbles has now developed glaucoma. She has lost her vision in one eye and sadly, the other eye will soon follow. So far, Tumble's veterinary bills are in excess of $1,500, and still Tumbles faces at least one more surgery in the weeks ahead. The May's are totally committed to Tumbles, but are experiencing financial hardship, with now two, special needs dogs and their daughter who has been spending far too much time in Sick Kid's Hospital. The family has taken this month's mortgage funds to pay for Tumble's veterinary care.

BHRO would like to help out with this situation, and we are hoping you can help us do just that. If you are able to spare a few dollars to help the May family and Tumbles, it would be so gratefully appreciated. No donation is too small to make a difference when we all band together. All donations of $10.00 or more are eligible for a tax receipt. Donations can be made online through Paypal by clicking on the donation button below.

Alternatively, cheques can be made payable to Basset Hound Rescue of Ontario, and mailed to:
